Redesigned Trawler

Overview

Construction of the hull tooling for the redesigned 36 Trawler is under way. This is a vessel designed for comfort in the NorthWest climate. The true displacement type hull cruises at 7kts with twin Yanmar diesels for exceptional fuel economy and reliability. Deck and interior layouts will be drawn to match buyers particular needs

Construction

The CT36 is built using Epoxy resins. The hull is of a solid laminate. This results in a very resilient and durable vessel. The hull, deck, and other components are also stronger than if built using conventional resins (ortho, iso, or vinylester). We have Not used the greater strength of an epoxy laminate as justification to reduce hull thickness. The weight and thickness has been retained. This is to create a yacht to last a liftime. One that can cruise with confidence. Salvage experience after Hurricane Katrina showed that many new, thinner hulls were very prone to puncture, cracking, and sinking. The owner of a CT36 can rest assured we use substantial laminates for the safety of you and your yacht.

Most of our structural elements are devoid of wood. We use Diab foam cores for bulkheads, frames, deck, and house cores. Unlike balsa or plywood it won't rot. It is also more resistant to water intrusion than wood. In instances where wood is used, such as engine stringer cores, we use solid timbers of marine grade species.

Propulsion and Engine Room

The CT36 features twin propulsion engines. First, there's safety in redudancy. Should a prop be damaged, the other can bring you home. If anything disables one engine, there is a second ready and waiting to keep you going. Even with the best maintenance the marine environment is harsh on machinery. Don't be the one stranded.

With or without a bow thruster, twin engines make docking easier. They provide simple control. They'll slip the CT36 into a tight harbor during an afternoon crosswind while those with single engine yachts are dancing about with boat poles and fenders..

Today's Tier II emissions compliant engines are quiet, clean, and fuel sipping compared to the bilge oilers of the past. Their high tolerance parts produce smooth power. However, with this comes a lack of tolerance for contaminated fuel. We install dual Racor primary filters for each engine, followed by an additional Racor for final cleansing. We also build in a stand alone fuel polishing system. It features dedicated suction and return lines for each tank so it does not disturb fuel flow to the engines and genset. In the real world you will get contaminated fuel. Feeding a clean supply to the engines keeps them running and you cruising on your way.

Not sure how much fuel the engines are really burning? FloScan instruments do. They're tied into the NMEA 2000 network to keep fuel consumption data at the helm where you want it.
