Chine Rounds Part 1
May 19, 2008

The battens on the chine radi were covered with fiberglass screen, the type used in home screen doors and window screens.
It was fastened using a hand stapler and JT-21 staples. This was then coated with 90 minute drywall mudding compound.
Each new layer was applied after approximately 24 dry times until enough thickness was built up to match the surrounding sheeting.
Protruding screw heads have also been ground down. The screws are then filled over with mud. Seams between the sheets
of plywood are also filled.

From inside the plug the screen is somewhat visible. Them mud has been partly worked through the screen
to give it a more secure hold to the plug.

The plug is heated to decrease the dry time between coats of mud. It will also help the epoxy achieve a full
cure when the mold is layed up. A radiant type system is being used. It's clean and heats the plug evenly.
The main components include the water heater (electric at the moment), circulation pump, Taco pump control,
main thermostat, and radiant pipes. In this case 250' of 1/2" pex pipe is strung throughout the inside of the plug.
Later a hydronic air handler may be added to increase heat output for the main mold layups. Also note a fan
has been hung to circulate the warm air and help draw moisture away from the inside layer of the mudding.
A yellow dye has been added to the water to aid in locating and removing entrapped air. The system is not
pressurized by the city water supply, and an expansion bucket helps remove air
